Students’ resources
A sufficient income is necessary for students to successfully complete all phases of higher education, namely access, retention, and graduation. This chapter analyses the income situation of students in the EUROSTUDENT countries, starting by looking at the level of monthly income for different student groups. In this context, the influence of two recent crisis events, specifically the COVID-19 pandemic and inflation in the years 2022/23, is also taken into account. In addition to the income level, the income structure, i.e. the sources of income and their contribution to students' total income is analysed as well. Particular attention is paid to the three most important sources of income, that is family/partner contributions, self-earned income of students and state support. As insufficient income can be one cause of financial difficulties for students, this topic is analysed in detail, too.
