Students’ expenses
Covering one's own expenses can be regarded as the most important motif for students to generate income. This chapter thus supplements the analysis of the income situation of students. It analyses the expenses of students in the EUROSTUDENT countries in absolute and relative terms. Firstly, a comparison is made between the development of student expenditure and the general inflation rate over the last three years in order to assess a general effect of the recent inflation on students. Various structural analyses of student expenditure in the areas of living costs and study-related costs are then carried out. This also includes the financial support that students receive from their private environment. Special attention is paid to the most important expenditure items of both living costs and study-related costs; this includes housing costs and tuition fees. Finally, the question of the extent to which students are able to cover an unexpected required major expense will also be investigated.
