Wissenschaft weltoffen 2025 kompakt English edition
Since 2001, the "Wissenschaft weltoffen" project has analysed the internationalisation of higher education and science in Germany and around the world. The compact edition of the annual data report contains the latest internationalisation indicators, displayed as graphs. Indicators include facts and figures on international students in Germany, visits undertaken by German students abroad, the countries of origin and destination countries of internationally mobile students, and researcher mobility to and from Germany. The indicators presented are based on international data published by the OECD and UNESCO, national data from the Federal Statistical Office and on the findings of internal surveys among organisations that fund visits abroad.
The German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademische Austauschdienst e.V., DAAD) is the world's largest funding organization for the international exchange of students and scientists. It is supported by German higher education institutions and their students - according to current figures, 242 universities and 108 student institutions are members.
As a competence center for higher education and science research, the German Center for Higher Education and Science Research (Deutsches Zentrum für Hochschul- und Wissenschaftsforschung, DZHW) conducts data collection and analyses, produces research-based services, and provides infrastructure for research.
